Herd bulls play a major part in our program for both our current and future success. We believe in selecting the best bulls available that will allow us to raise those bulls our commercial customers are asking for. Our walking herd bulls are selected for disposition, fleshing ability, good feet and legs, performance while maintaining calving ease, and their maternal traits. Bulls with good mothers will raise good daughters. We choose to invest heavily in our herd bulls and leave the AI-ing to others. As spring is our busiest time in our landscape business we don’t have time to chase our cows around with a plastic glove and AI stick.

Why so much emphasis on Bulls?
Bulls have the greatest economic impact on any breeding program, thus bull selection is one of the most important decisions that a cowman makes during the course of a year.
A bull sires 20-40 calves each year, while a cow produces half of less this many offspring in her lifetime. For the most part, herd improvement comes from the bulls. It’s been estimated that 80% of herd improvement is directly attributed to bull selection.

Klyber was the start of everything here at Parview Stock Farms. His sons have been very well accepted with our commercial bull buyers, his daughters are now in production here, and are proving to be all that we hoped for. Klyber may very well have been the most docile, best footed easy doing bull the Simmental breed has ever had. His progeny all tend to display the same traits, which is why they are in huge demand. Klyber is now deceased, but we still have a large semen bank, and a large supply of embryo’s sired by him. |

“Guiness” is our new Full Fleckvieh sire. He is sired by the well known SMITHBILT MOLSON, and out of the FINN-VENTURA'S GOLDIE 84G cow, who has gone on to be one of the lead donor cows at Crimson Tide Fleckvieh. Guiness was selected for his combination of performance and calving ease. SMITHBILT MOLSON is one of the few sires that can be used on heifers and cows, calve easily and still have great performance. Guiness had a birth weight of 100lbs as an ET calf and his 205 day weight was 914lbs. Guiness was the high selling Fleckvieh/ Fullblood bull at the 2009 Bull Spectrum Sale. We look forward to using his genetics on our Klyber daughters.

RED SIMMENTAL ARE NOT RED ANGUS and it was with this in mind we selected Primecut as our new Red Simmental Sire. He is not your typical red bull. He is packin' the trademark “Tabletop” of his sire IPU T-Bone 13R and comes from one of the best cow families in the Red Business. His grand dam is the legendary Parkhill Red Doll cow from Westway Farms. This cow family is the anchor of many herd bulls and donor females for many astute breeders. His sire T-Bone is the lead herd sire for Tymarc Livestock and is producing exceptional females and bulls that are well sought after by both the purebred and commercial market. He has BBS Zima on both his sire and dam’s side, who many regard as the best all around red bull ever. Primecut is big footed, well traveled, extremely thick, soggy and good haired. As one astute breeder said “He looks like a Fleckvieh in Red Simmental clothes.” Primecut was the high selling bull at the 2009 Lucky Sale and was one of the high selling Red Bulls all spring.
Stay tuned as we will be offering limited semen packages on this exciting new sire.

When we decided it was time to look for a black herd bull, we put our selection list together: Strong maternal genetics, performance blended with calving ease, genetically & structurally sound, good disposition and a blaze face. Well we found it all in YR BLK Heavyweight 514X. He’s sired by IPU Heavyweight whose dam is said to be one of the best uddered cows in the Labatte herd. His dam goes back to the Cisco Pride bull, whose knows for his calving ease, and to top is all off he has the legendary JB BLK SAUGAHATCHEE in his pedigree. Performance, Performance, Performance with a blend of calving ease. YR BLK Heavyweight 514X is extremely deep, big footed and loose hided. Just the way we like them. He reminds us of Klyber. We will be using him on our Primecut daughters and our blaze faced cows. We are extremely excited to have added him to our Herd Sire bank, and thank Yellow Rose Cattle Company for giving us the opportunity to select him out of the Bull Expo at the 2010 National Trust Sale. |
