Our cow herd is made up of Red, Black, Full Fleckvieh and Fleckvieh influenced females that are built around: strong cow families, structurally soundness, excellent fertility, good milking and a docile disposition. With those traits in mind we have selected cattle from the Bar 15 Dispersal; the Beeba cow family, JB Livestock Reduction; the Helga 103D & the Albee’s Amy cow families, Dominion Cattle Co. Dispersal; the Sim-Roc Gwen & Shawacres Heidi 1H cow families, and Yellow Rose Cattle Co.; the Attitude cow family.
Our cows are bred in a 45 day window, and then calve each year from the first of December to mid-January. They are required to calve on their own, show a manageable disposition during calving, and then raise those big beefy calves our customer’s desire. Our goal is to provide bulls to our customers with a couple extra months of age which will allow them to cover more cows and be developed at a slower pace.
Our cows are fed a haylage / dry hay ration with free choice mineral, as we have found this ration allows them to milk well, while maintaining good body condition so that they breed back in the desired time frame.
While believing in using our own walking herd-sires, we utilize embryo transplant very extensively within our breeding program. We feel this is the quickest and best way to maximize the genetics from our best cow families. Each year we implant 10-15 embryos from our best cows, mated with our walking herd sires and select AI sires. |
